rainbow-bridgeThere is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass.

When a pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food, water and warm spring weather. The old and frail animals are young again. The abandoned animals are again surrounded by friends. Those who are maimed are made whole again. They play the whole day, every day, with each other.

There is only one thing missing. They are not with their special people who loved them here on Earth. So, each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up. The nose twitches! The ears perk up! The eyes water! And, suddenly this one pet bolts excitedly away from the other animals!

Isis and Midnight

Your pet has seen you arrive! And when you meet your special friend again, you take him or her in your arms and embrace. Your face and nose and lips and neck are licked again and again and again… and you look once more into the soulful eyes of your loving, trusting pet.

And then, holding each other, you cross the Rainbow Bridge together… never again to be separated.

Autumn Rain
Do not stand by my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints upon the snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain and
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush,
I am that swift uplifting rush,
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft star that shines at night.
Do not stand by my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die.

In Loving Memory of Ozzy (Osiris)
ozzie
Ozzy was a special dog
A very gentle soul
His heart was filled with love and peace
His soul was filled with joy
He taught his job of loving well
And was never cruel or bold
All he wanted was to be loved
A true friend to behold
Loyal and patient, sometimes sad
Just wanting all to love
His lessons were of love and joy
Of loving all as one
A truly unconditional love
A gap felt now he’s gone
Was sad the day he left to die
He let go with a sigh
But all our lives were blessed with love
The day Ozzy stopped by

In Loving Memory of McKenna

mckenna

RIP McKenna: 9.2.2014

McKenna was an eleven year old German Shepherd Dog when she passed. She was a real sweetheart and a very gentle soul, very loyal and protective and my personal dog. She came into our lives when she was about four years old and had been used for breeding, until she started being attacked by the other dogs, and lived her life out happily as my special companion. After I lost my previous generation of dogs she came into my life right away and her name meant gift from God. She was my personal protector and saw me through some difficult times, and we both drew strength from each other.

The Last Battle
If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this — the last battle — can’t be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don’t let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn’t want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they’ll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don’t grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We’ve been so close — we two — these years,
Don’t let your heart hold any tears.

Boe

Boe was my kid’s dog and she was born in 2008, and we had her since she was born, as a litter from my rescue dog at the time. She was part Australian Shepherd, and was very agile and energetic, and a very happy dog, she liked to play with balls and could leap over anything, but loved to be with people and playing. She is much missed though she lived a long and happy life with her sister, Hope.

Hope

hope
Hope was Boe’s littermate and was the runt of the litter so we bottle fed her and kept her because she had some health issues, she was very quiet and sweet and totally different from her sister Boe, although they were devoted to each other and never apart. She out-lived her sister though missed her a lot, but they are now running together over the rainbow bridge after a very long and happy life together.

Yin

yin
Yin was my now adult teenager’s cat and not many cats love toddlers but Yin was Moe’s protector since we adopted her as a kitten and was a devoted companion until she left us at the age of fifteen. When Moe cried she would always come running and purred constantly. A sweeter cat for a child you really could not wish for and she was one of the nicest cats I have ever had in my life.

Lend Me a Pup
I will lend to you for awhile a puppy, God said,
For you to love him while he lives
and to mourn for him when he is gone.
Maybe for 12 or 14 years, or maybe for 2 or 3
But will you, till I call him back
take care of him for me?

He’ll bring his charms to gladden you and
(should his stay be brief)
you’ll always have his memories
as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise that he will stay
since all from Earth return,
But there are lessons taught below
I want this pup to learn.

I’ve looked the whole world over
in search of teachers true,
And from the fold that crowd life’s land
I have chosen you.
Now will you give him all your love
Nor think the labor vain,
nor hate me when I come to take
my pup back again?

I fancied that I heard them say,
“Dear Lord, They Will Be Done,”
For all the joys this pup will bring
the risk of grief you’ll run.
Will you shelter him with tenderness,
Will you love him while you may?
And for the happiness you’ll know
forever grateful stay?

But should I call him back
much sooner than you’ve planned,
please brave the bitter grief that comes
and try to understand.
If, by your love, you’ve managed
my wishes to achieve,
In memory of him that you’ve loved,
cherish every moment with your faithful bundle,
and know he loved you too.

Remembering Coal
coal

Coal was my step-son’s cat and I originally got him from the local shelter in Spokane. Coal was a friend to everyone and will leap on unsuspecting guests shoulders and climb in the UPS truck. He was always very sweet and a total lap cat! We miss him a lot.

Poem For Cats
And God asked the feline spirit
Are you ready to come home?
Oh, yes, quite so, replied the precious soul
And, as a cat, you know I am most able
To decide anything for myself.
Are you coming then? asked God.
Soon, replied the whiskered angel
But I must come slowly
For my human friends are troubled
For you see, they need me, quite certainly.
But don’t they understand? Asked God
That you’ll never leave them?
That your souls are intertwined. For all eternity?
That nothing is created or destroyed?
It just is….forever and ever and ever.
Eventually they will understand,
Replied the glorious cat
For I will whisper into their hearts
That I am always with them
I just am….forever and ever and ever.

Leo

leo
Leo came from the same place as Sylvester but was much more timid and scared and probably was abused before he was taken to the rescue and adopted to us. He was very quiet and sweet and was especially scared of men but he settled down a lot. He liked to sit on my lap when I did phone consultations and was at my computer. He came to us with a virus and left too soon at the age of thirteen, but had a happy life with us and the other cats.

Chloe

Chloe
Chloe was our barn cat, who was written into the contract for the property. She was an older Calico cat and lived here all her life, since she was quite feral the previous owners did not feel she would make a long move, and so she came to us with the house. She was very shy, but sweet and got along well with Red who also liked to be outdoors, as he was used to before I adopted him. Chloe left for those great hunting grounds in the sky at the grand old age of twenty!

To Love Again
Oh what unhappy twist of fate
Has brought you homeless to my gate,
The gate where once another stood
To beg for shelter, warmth and food?

For from that day I ceased to be
The master of my destiny,
While she, with purr and velvet paw
Became within my house the law.

She scratched the furniture and shed
And claimed the middle of my bed,
She ruled in arrogance and pride
And broke my heart the day she died.

So if you really think, oh cat
I’d willingly relive all that,
Because you come forlorn and thin
Well don’t just stand there – come on in!

lily
In loving memory of Lily, Sirius, Juno, Midnight, Yang and all my beloved pets who are safely over the rainbow bridge, some to return, some to run free and follow other paths. They all left pawprints on my heart and each one holds a special place there, from chickens to guinea-pigs to Princess the newt who had her own special funeral when I was a child, and even then an aspiring veterinarian. They each gave me something special to remember and many lessons to learn along the way. And so it continues…but the hardest part of having animals is when we lose them…

Princess Caraboo

caraboo
Princess Caraboo lived up to her name and was really a princess! She would have preferred to be the only cat and only tolerated Red, her brother. She was part Maine Coon and had a beautiful coat and was a very elegant cat indeed. She did do cat 4H and won 5th in State with my son, Moe.

Red

red
Red lived to be over eighteen years old and had belonged to my former office manager, and friend, Nancy, who sadly passed away quite a few years ago now. He lived with us since that time and was very proud and independent and did not like the other cats or dogs too much, except for Princess Caraboo who came with him originally. When he lived in Dallas he was quite the adventurer and once brought a rooster in through his cat door in the middle of the night and also a raccoon. He settled down with us and loved life in the country!

April

april
April was our feisty doe who was more mischievous than Capricorn, which is probably better since she was the female and bucks can be more difficult. She lived with us for several years, and gave birth to her one kid, Charm, but sadly is no longer with us.

heron

Clawdene

Clawdene
We have had many chickens, but this is Clawdene my personal chicken who was very sick as a pullet, I nursed her through, and she enjoyed quite a lot of bedtime stories in the house until she was well, and was very attached to me and talked to me a lot, maybe recounting chicken bedtime stories or asking why humans cross the road. The other chickens have included Christina, Natalie, Liberty, Glory, Bell, Star, Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash, Elsa, Peep, Taffy, Derpy the chick and the roosters Dawn and Justice. Of our original chickens Margaret is still with us and will be ten next year. Clawdene taught be a lot about how how wonderful chickens are, and  is sadly missed. Getting attached to a chicken is not for the faint-hearted!

Justice

Derpy

Theodore

theodore
Theodore was our first rescue male muscovy duck, who was devoted to his mate Alice and stood guard over her while she nested.

Alice

Vincent

vincent
Vincent was Violet’s mate, he was very nervous and funny, and they bonded instantly but sadly we had predator issues and he is no longer with us. Violet has a new young mate, named Niffler. Geese will rebond with another mate but Violet definitely did not do well on her own. After we placed a Lonely Hearts ad for her on Craiglist she is happily bonded with Niffler!

Solo the Parrot

solo
Solo was my African Grey parrot who came from a Parrot Rescue in Texas, he was quite the character, and definitely ruled the household, including the cats. He had an extensive vocabulary and a wicked sense of humor and liked to dance and listen to loud music, as well as whistle the dogs and tell my kid “you will be late for school!” He would bite anyone except me and was very mischievous and did not always have the best vocabulary, sad to say!
